About Us

Our Story

James and Alex are a husband and wife team who began Synergy Flooring in 2017. James has been in the flooring industry for most of his life. He started uplifting and prepping floors, moved onto laying flooring and then became certified as a Carpet & Vinyl Installer. He later worked as a Sales & Project Manager and Architectural Specification Rep.

Alex is a qualified Chartered Accountant and worked as a Management Accountant and Finance Manager in the corporate world before taking a break to have their twins.

James’ extensive knowledge and skills in all aspects of the flooring industry along with his solid client relationships coupled with Alex’s financial experience provides a strong leadership combination for this family business.

Synergy Flooring has continued to improve, grow and develop on its delivery since its conception, with absolutely no plans to stop.

Our Team

James Alexander

James brings over 20 years of flooring knowledge to his role at Synergy including a carpet and vinyl trade certification and project management & sales experience. James’ in-depth technical knowledge allows him to manage all types of flooring installations and consult on the more technical aspects of product specification. James makes sure each project runs smoothly and is delivered on time and within budget. In his spare time, you’ll find James fishing with his kids or diving in the Hauraki Gulf.

Alex Ward

Alex thrives when organising the office and crunching the numbers. Her background as a Chartered Accountant in the corporate world has given her the skills to manage Synergy’s cash flow, budgeting and generate financial reports. Alex works 3 days a week in the office and spends the rest of her days with her young twins. When she has spare time, Alex loves doing yoga and baking.

James Redmond

Senior Sales & Project Manager

James brings a practical and positive can-do attitude to his clients with a real focus on design and fit for purpose products. With over 25 years in commercial interiors, James has great insight into design and creativity within modern work and learning spaces. “My background in the education market has taught me that commercial spaces require hard wearing, long lasting floor installations. At Synergy, we deliver on that”. James has been enjoying coaching his sons’ rugby & soccer teams, outside of work.

Matt Irvine

Matt has progressed from a flooring labourer through to warehouse and operational support and on to project management. He's developed a wealth of industry knowledge and has become a super savvy and efficient agent. Matt has a varied skill set that allows him to easily adapt in his diverse role. Matt also has mad skills on the touch field and is passionate about his league.

Jessica Thorne

Estimation/Administration

Jessica joined Synergy in 2020 as an estimator and administrator extraordinaire. She spent most of her career working in the education and construction industries and has brought with her a great skillset to the team. Jess is an avid rock-hound and enjoys going gem hunting. You can find Jess most days buzzing around the office assisting the team.

Chris Ibell

Chris joined the team in 2021 and is an absolute all-rounder in the office and on the road, assisting the whole sales team with their ongoing projects. Chris has come to Synergy from a flooring background with extensive experience in warehousing, beginning originally in Christchurch. In his time in the flooring industry, Chris has had daily contact and dealings with installers, project managers, sales reps and of course customers. Outside of work Chris is a proud father, “If the suns out my son and I are probably at the beach, kicking a football or shooting some hoops”.

Evan Bradshaw

Warehouse Manager and Site Maintenance

Evan joined the Synergy team in 2021 as an installer and quickly moved into our Warehouse Manager and Site Maintenance role. The Dunedin native moved to Auckland in the 90’s and went on to own and run a successful locksmithing business for over 20 years. Outside of work, he enjoys his live music and getting creative with upcycling. Evan is our go-to handyman at the office and onsite, if you have a problem to solve, Mr Fix-it has a solution!

Kim Mabbett

Office Administrator and Estimator

Kim is an office all-rounder with a background in Insurance, administration, and accounts. She is currently studying part-time towards a Diploma in Construction Quantity Surveying and is applying these new skills in her role as estimator at Synergy. Kim brings her values of honesty and integrity to the table. On the weekend she enjoys oil painting and going to the gym.
